Tab Stash: Stash current window

G

The Tabs feature saves all tabs in ALL of my windows. But I organize my browsing into windows, which I name – for instance, Research, Collaboration, Google docs, AWS Admin, etc. Saving all my tabs at once actually makes my life harder when I want to restore tabs.

One way to solve the problem is to simply give the user a button to select either “this window” or “all windows”, and if it’s “this window” then use the chrome.tabs API to get the list of open tabs and save them. (Extra credit: use the name of the window (if it has one) as the name of the session.)

Doing it this way opens up some interesting opportunities.

For instance, I often do research for new projects which will eventually turn into a Jira ticket or Trello card with a list of notes and links to sites I’ve used. It would be handy to print the list of tabs in a session, grouped by window, in a form I can cut & paste anywhere I want. The obvious next step is integrations with Jira, Trello, Evernote, etc.

Thank you for the excellent and detailed feedback Gregg. We are definitely taking this into account for our next update—Focus Mode, in which Tab Stash will feature heavily!

+1 to this. I use separate windows for each project I’m working on. I name my windows. I would like to be able to stash a single window, and restore it later.

It would also be nice if the user could select a set related of windows to stash together. Alternately the user might be limited to stashing the current window, but be able to add it to a new or existing stash.

Stash this window is now available!

You can also now set stashing the current window by default.

To see it in action, check out our 2.16.12 release notes.
